Easy-Breezy # 6!=)

1. What was your favorite Geology topic this year? Why?
My favorite geology topic was looking at the foliated and non-foliated rocks because usually when you just see any rock laying around you think nothing of it, but now I can think of the ways it may be classified.

2. What was your favorite Meteorology topic this year? Why?
My favorite topic about Meterology is when we discussed the different types of clouds. I liked that we actually got to take a "field-trip" outside and notice the clouds that we may pass by everyday.

3. What was your favorite Astronomy topic this year? Why? (Include a picture for #1, #2, OR #3)
My favorite topic for Astronomy was doing the Ultimate Fate of the Universe because I never knew about the various ways that the whole entire universe may one day just blow up, be crushed or expand over a given amout of time.
4. What grade do you think you earned on the Final Exam? What did you do to prepare? Is there anything that you wish you had done differently?
I can honestly say that I did try my hardest for the final exam. I think that I deserve at least an eighty. I studied my notes, completed the crossword puzzles, and studied the pre-quiz we took on Quizstar to help prepare myself for the exam. I wish I would have stuided a little harder.

# 4 ! Matthew Sucks !

1. What made the Big Bang "bang?" In other words, why didn't the universe just stay in a tiny little sphere the size of a golfball? More details = more points.

The big bang theory states that at one time the universe was confined to a dense, hot, superrnassive ball. Then, 13.7 billion years ago, a violent explosion occured making all these materials go into all directions. The universe continues to expand, evolve and cool from the explosion.
2. What do you think would happen if you went into a black hole? Scientists only know what happens until you get to the event horizon. Anything beyond that is really just an educated guess. More details = more points.
I think that as soon as you pass the event horizon in a black hole you will quickly be sucked in by gravity and your body would explode into millions of pieces instantly. There would be no chance of escape since the gravity is so strong and there is no light.
3. Tell me what you think about worm holes? When you pass through one, where do you go? WHEN do you go? More details = more points.
I think that it would be impossible for you to go into the past, but you could go deep into the future. I think that you would  instantly be pulled into the future probably hundreds of years away. You would be able to see how the how time changes and possibly how generations repeat and grow in various ways.

Blog Post #3 !

1. What are the four ways scientists can detect planets?
Radio Velocity, Astrometry, Transit Method, and Optical Detection are the four ways scientists detect planets.

2. Which way makes the most sense to you? Explain it.

Transit Method because there is an instrument that shows when there is a dip in the brightness of planet which is most likely being blocked by another planet.

-----------------------

3. Explain the concept of the "Goldilocks Zone."
The Goldilocks Zone is an area of space in which a planet is just the right distance from its home star so that its surface is neither too hot or too cold. That means that the planet could possibly have liquid water.

4. If Gilese 581c does have life, what do you think it would look like? How would it act? Would it be intelligent?
If they had life then it would most likely look like giant fishes since the planet is covered in mostly oceans. I think they would swim everywhere and may be violent. I think they would be smart enough to hunt for their own food and make living environments for their babies.

5. Do you believe in aliens? Why or why not? Give me a solid paragraph.
Yes because there is no proof of any alien life yet, but scientist believe they are a lot closer to discovering them because of all the recent discoveries they have found in the Goldilock Zone. There have been  many failed attempts to find these aliens, but maybe one day we will be in contact with them or have proof of their existence.

Blog Post 1 !

1.Search for aliens (SETI)

The SETI institute was founded in 1984 as a nonprofit corporation and in 1985 NASA awarded the institute a contract to play a major role in a search being performed by the space agency. They use  radio telescopes to search for alien signals being sent to Earth.

2.Milky Way Galaxy

The Milky Way is the galaxy which is the home of our Solar System  with at least 200 billion other stars. The Milky Way is actually a giant, its mass is probably between 750 billion and one trillion solar masses, and its diameter is about 100,000 light years All the objects in the Milky Way Galaxy orbit their common center of mass, called the Galactic Center .

3.Red Giants

When the core of the star is  hotter than it was during its normal life and the heat causes the outer parts of the star to swell. The star becomes a giant. The radiation from the fusing shell  grows weak by the time it reaches the surface of the star. Weak radiation is red, so the star becomes a red giant. The Sun will run out of fuel and become a red giant in about 4 billion years.

4.Black holes

Black holes have a strong suction force, they may only suck up what crosses their event horizons, and they are not capable of absorbing the whole universe. The known closest black hole to Earth is Cygnus X-1, located about 8000 light years away. Although whiteholes are mathematically possible, there have yet to be observations to prove their existence. As black holes age they gain more mass as they suck in more matter

5.Mars
Mars is named after the Greek God of War. Mars is referred to as the Red Planet because of its distinct red color. ItMars had a magnetic field like the Earth, but has lost it. tTemperatures are generally cold, ranging from -200 to a maximum high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Mars has roughly the same surface area of the Earth, but is much less dense. A Martian day is a little over 24 hours.

Blog Post 1 [Ughh ! ]

1. Which hurricane did you choose?

Hazel

2. What category was it on the Saffir-Simpson scale?

Category 4

3. Tell its story.

The hurricane slowly turned around and turned again and crossed the southeastern of Bahamas. This Hurricane caused 95 deaths and $281 million in damages in the US. High winds occurred over large portions of the eastern United States. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina reported a peak wind gust of 106 mph, and winds were estimated at 130 to 150 mph along the coast between Myrtle Beach and Cape Fear, North Carolina. Washington, DC reported 78 mph sustained winds, and peak gusts of over 90 mph occurred as far northward as inland New York state. A storm surge of up to 18 ft inundated portions of the North Carolina coast.

4. How many lives were lost? How much damage did it cause ($)?

95 Deaths. And $281 Million dollars in the United States, 100 deaths and $100 million in damage in Canada, and an estimated 400 to 1000 deaths in Haiti.

5. Include at least one picture.

Blog 6 ! =)

1. Which blog was your best this quarter? Why?

I enjoyed doing the blog post number 4 because I took my time looking p the information for the sunflower pollen and I answered the questions correctly.

2. What topic did you enjoy learning about the most (from chapter 17-20)? Why? Include a picture.

I enjoyed learning about wind speed. I liked being able to team up with a partner ( that I actually liked) and build the anemometer.

3. What grade do you deserve for your 3rd Quarter Blogs? (Keep in mind some basic math. If you only did 3 out of 6 of them you cannot earn above a 50%.)

I think do deserve a 100% because I took my time and revised each blog post and made sure they were done accurately.

SunFlower. =)

1. Check out Fayetteville's pollen forecast. Which is affecting us the most right now: tree, grass, or weed pollen? Specifically, which trees, grasses, or weeds?
Oak Tree Pollen is affecting us most in Fayetteville.

2. "You're Surrounded by Pollen," so read this article. What is needed for a "perfect storm" of pollen?
Long winter pushed back growing seasons for some plants and trees, causing them to bloom simultaneously instead of at various intervals with dry, windy weather, and you have a perfect storm of pollen.

3. Choose a microscopic image of pollen. Which one looks the best to you? Why? Where is this pollen commonly found? Write a paragraph in your own words explaining this specific type of pollen. Include a cool-looking picture. You may need to use other websites to help you.

The Sunflower pollen looks best to me because it is huge, and round with like pointy sides. Sunflower pollen is found in North Carolina, Kansas, New Mexico, etc. It orginated in North America and used as a medicine plant in Europe. It was also very popular as a type of food.

Yo' Mama ! =) #3

1. The five main states of matter are Solids, liquids, gases, plasmas, and Bose-Einstein.
2. Energy is needed to change gas into plasma.
3. The temperatures are 0. (Kelvin) , -273.15 ( Degree Celsius), and -459.67 ( Degree Farenheit)
4.  The temperature in space is 3(Kelvin).
5. What do you think plasma would like look/smell/feel/taste? How about Bose-Einstein Condensates? Do some research on other sites, but ultimately come up with your own unique answer :) I think plasma would look like gas , they probably would not have a smell, it would be way too hot to touch, and it would also be very dangerous to eat/taste it. I think Bose-Einstein Condensates would look like a cold solid ice cube, it probably would not have any type of distinct smell, and would maybe be cold enough to give you frost bite, and it also would be wat too cold to touch. OUCH ! !

BLOG POST #2 =)

1. List three technologies that the school plans to utilize.

The school plans to utilize rainwater collections, geothermal A/C and solar photovoltaic power systems tecnologies.

2. Explain each one. (you may need to check out other websites for research)

Rainwater collection is when you collect rain water through pipes and recycle the water.
Geothermal A/C is when there are pipes undergoround that heat or aircondition your house.
Solar photovoltaic system is the use of solar panels.

3. Earth Day is coming up. Click on one of the Core Issues. Which one did you choose?

Recycling And Wasting Reduction
4. What is the big problem associated with this issue?

There are toxic chemicals that leak into the ground from garbage.

5. What can you do to fix this problem? Give me a solid paragraph.

In order to fix this problem a lot more people should get involved and help support recycling. People should stop dumping toxic chemicals into their trash since they all eventually end up leaking into the ground. These chemicals could be killing off potential plants and in the long run will end up hurting the economy. People should reduce the amount of waste we produce.

MaiahMarie Is The Best ! =)

1.What was your best blog this quarter? What made it so good?
I liked doing the Wordle because it was something different and it was very simple. I also liked being able to choose the font and background.

2. What grade do you deserve for your blogs this quarter? Why? (Remember to do some basic math here. If you have only attempted 5 out of 7 blogs, the absolute highest grade you could earn is 71%) I think I deserve 100% because I took time and did put effort into the blog posts that we've been assigned.

3. What was your favorite topic in 2nd Quarter? Why? (Ch. 8,9,10,12,14, 16) Give me a solid paragraph explaining your answer. Include a picture.
Chapter 9 because we were able to learn about the Pangaea and about the contiental drift.

1. How were Rodinia and Pangaea similar and different from each other?

Continents are assembled into a supercontinent, only this time North America is in the middle instead of Africa. This earlier supercontinent was the Rodinia. The pangaea seemed more conected. They were both once supercontienents.
2. When did the tectonic plates appear to move the fastest? (biggest difference between two consecutive maps)

350 and 420

3. Look at Pangaea (250 million years ago). If the continents looked like Pangaea today, what would the world be like? Think about governments, sports teams and leagues, and other aspects of life.
If the Pangaea was the same as 250 million years ago then there would be closer to other contienents so there might be much more less debt between countries. There would probably be a lot more wars going on.
 4. Look at Pangaea. If you could pick any place in Pangaea to start a modern civilization, where would you pick? Why? (there is a key on the bottom of the page that explains what the little letters in the maps stand for. For example, "ar" means Arabia.)

750 million years ago NA because  it looks the biggest so there will be a bigger population.

China Town Dawg ! =)

1. How deep is the deepest mine in the world?

-TauTona gold mine in South Africa   ;3.6 km

2. How deep would you have to dig to reach the mantle?

3000 km

3. Let's pretend that you and your friends tried to dig a hole in your backyard to find a shortcut to China. The thing is, you guys had special suits that could withstand extreme temperatures, so you would not die. If you were somehow able to reach the mantle, what would it look like? What kinds of things would you see? How about the outer core? Inner core? What would it look like as you approached the surface (the crust) on the other side?

The mantle would look like a huge rock with high temperatures. My friends and I would see a liquid- solid rock.  The outer core was a liquid and we would able to basically chill in a hot tub. The inner core would be ride a bike and try out skateboarding for once. As I approach the crust I would see grass, people and maybe a toy store.

Maiah Rocks ! =)

I think that I deserve 100 on my blogs becuase I did try my hardest to answer the problems correctly and I have turned in all of the assignments on time. My favorite blog was the one where we were able to graph all the informtion about the different types of vehicles. I was able to see how my mother actully goes through gas and I was able to understand why she complains about it all the time.

MINI Cooper Clubman

In my opinion, the MINI Cooper Clubman would be best for me and anyone else looking for an afordable car for a family or an individual. The average MPG is 46 which is great mileage for those constantly on the go or those who want to save some money. Since the car is pretty small those who have troublle backing in up in crowed parking lots will have a better advantage of avoiding those horriable accidents.

Gnomonic Projection ! :)

Which map projection is your favorite? Why? Include a picture.

My favorite map projection is gnomonic. The gnomonic map determines distance and direction across the oceans which may come in handy when planning a cruise or thinking about going on a nice vacation. One bad part about the map is that it only shows half of the world . That being said, you may find yourself looking on a different type of map if the ocean you are searching for is not shown on the map anywhere.

Astronomy ! :)

"Which of the four sciences in Earth Science seems the most interesting to you? Why? Include at least one picture."

Astronomy seems most interesting to me since I have a better all-around understanding of it. I like to learn about the solar system and all of it's beautiful planets . I love the simple fact that you can never learn too much about our universe and there may even come a time when wonderful things are discovered years and years later. Since I do have an intrest in astronomy , it makes me more aware of my own enviorment . Many people may also understand more than whats beyond Earth .
